Employers

Round Rock is one of the economic engines of Central Texas, and the job market here is broad rather than tied to any one employer. Enterprise technology, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, education, logistics and public service all hire inside the city limits, and the city sits on the Interstate 35 corridor that carries the rest of the region’s work. A global headquarters, a semiconductor build-out, two data center campuses and three hospital systems are all within reach of this address.

What keeps people is the other half of it. Texas levies no state income tax. Both of the city’s colleges are in town rather than an hour away, so a qualification is something you can pick up without leaving your job. Round Rock has grown 36 percent in ten years and the employers below grew with it, which is the working version of a good place to build a career: the next job is usually in the same town as the last one.

What’s great about working from here

  • Dell is signed here until 2099. The city extended its agreement in April 2024, another 46 years.
  • Not a one-company town. Tech, schools, three hospital systems, a resort, freight, city government.
  • The chip supply chain runs through town. Tekscend has made photomasks here since 1986.
  • Two data center campuses are going up. Switch is building 1.5 million square feet beside Dell.
  • The hospitals and colleges are building too. Baylor Scott & White finishes a $220 million expansion this year.
  • Texas takes no income tax. Nothing is withheld at the state level.

Household income and home value are Census Bureau American Community Survey five-year estimates, 2020 to 2024. Everything else is from the City of Round Rock’s audited annual report for the year ended 30 September 2025: tax rates sourced there to the Williamson County Tax Office, unemployment to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, population to the City’s Planning Department.

Questions people ask

How close is Round Rock to Austin?

Downtown Austin is 28.2 miles from 20 Tate Lane, about 39 minutes off-peak. That is routed on the road network from this exact address rather than measured between city centres, and it is a free-flow time: Interstate 35 through Williamson County runs materially slower at rush hour, so plan on the distance, which does not change. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is further out at 34.3 miles, though that drive runs down State Highway 130 and never touches Interstate 35 at all.

Is Round Rock considered a suburb of Austin?

Yes in the everyday sense, and no in the way that matters for a lease. Round Rock is part of the Austin Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is the federal definition most people mean by suburb. It is also a home-rule city established in 1851, the largest city in Williamson County, with its own council-manager government and its own school district. Both of those come from the City’s own audited annual report for the year ended 30 September 2025. In practice it means the jobs, the schools and the hospitals here are Round Rock’s rather than Austin’s, and downtown Austin is 28.2 miles away when you want it.

How much does an Uber ride from Round Rock to Austin cost?

There is no fixed fare, and any page quoting you one is guessing. Uber prices each trip in real time from the distance, the time of day and how many drivers are out, so the same ride costs different amounts on a Tuesday morning and a Saturday night. What does not move is the distance: downtown Austin is 28.2 miles from this address, about 39 minutes off-peak. Check the current price in the Uber app before you plan around it. For a daily commute the arithmetic rarely works at that distance, which is part of why Round Rock is a car city.

Is Samsung building a chip plant in Texas?

Yes, in Taylor, 14.9 miles east of 20 Tate Lane. The federal CHIPS Program Office awarded Samsung Austin Semiconductor up to $4.745 billion in direct funding toward two leading-edge logic fabs and a research fab in Taylor, plus an expansion of Samsung’s existing Austin facility. Samsung is expected to invest over $37 billion in the region, and the award is projected to create over 3,500 manufacturing jobs and 12,000 construction jobs. The government’s own project timeline says all facilities are expected to be operational by 2030. Every figure here is from the CHIPS Program Office’s project page, read on 1 September 2026.

Where are the Samsung Austin Semiconductor locations located?

There are two of them, in two different counties. The original campus is in northeast Austin, in Travis County, which the federal CHIPS Program Office describes as an economic engine for Central Texas for nearly thirty years. The newer one is in Taylor, in Williamson County, and it is the site of the two leading-edge logic fabs and the research fab now being built. Both are covered by the same federal award. From 20 Tate Lane the Taylor campus is 14.9 miles, about 23 minutes off-peak, on US 79 east with no toll road on the route.
