By the Season
Summer
- June to SeptemberNormal highs of 93.2, 96.6, 97.8 and 91.4. That is four months above ninety, and it is the single fact that shapes the year here.
Austin’s Camp Mabry, the nearest long-record weather station, on NOAA’s 1991 to 2020 normals. There is no station in Round Rock; Camp Mabry is about twenty miles south.
- Late May to early SeptemberRock’N River, the city’s waterpark inside Old Settlers Park, 3.1 miles and nine minutes. Slides, a lazy river and a deep-water quarry with a drop slide.
In 2026 it ran daily except Wednesdays until 15 August, then weekends only until 6 September. A short season, and it is the reason the next row exists.
- Any afternoon at allKalahari, 3.8 miles. The size gets the headlines; in August what matters is the roof. Tom Foolerys Adventure Park next door holds the arcade, the ropes course and the bowling, also indoors.
- After sevenA Round Rock Express game at Dell Diamond, 3.4 miles. Night baseball is the outdoor evening that still works in August, and it is the cheapest one on this page.
Autumn and spring
- October, November, March to MayNormal highs of 82.5, 71.5, 73.3, 80.3 and 86.9. Five months when 670 acres at Old Settlers Park is worth 670 acres and the trails are the obvious answer.
- Wednesdays, seven to nineMusic on Main at the Prete Main Street Plaza stage, 221 East Main Street, free, run by the city in a spring season and an autumn one. Thirteen minutes from the door.
- 27 March to 20 SeptemberThe Round Rock Express season, per the club’s own schedule. Seventy-five home games, and a pass to all of them costs $275 plus fees.
- OctoberHometown Halloween downtown: trick-or-treating at the shops on Main Street, live music, face painting, no ticket.
Winter
- December to FebruaryNormal highs of 63.9, 62.5 and 66.5. Winter here is a jacket, not a season, and the parks stay open through all of it.
- Now go and see the rockThe round rock in Brushy Creek at Chisholm Trail Crossing Park, 500 Chisholm Trail Road, 6.9 miles. Sixty degrees and nobody there is the right way to see it.
The City of Round Rock puts it plainly: the town was first established where the Chisholm Trail crossed Brushy Creek, and the low water crossing was marked with a round, table-shaped rock that gave the town its name. The park is city owned and open.
- 1 December onwardHometown Holiday, the city’s light display downtown, up from the first of the month to the end of it. Free, and a thirteen minute drive.
- The cold snapKalahari again, 3.8 miles and indoors, which is how one building ends up being the answer twice a year for opposite reasons.
Questions people ask
Is there anything to do in Round Rock, Texas?
Yes, and the honest way to answer it is by the month rather than by the list. Four months a year the normal high in this part of Texas runs above ninety, so June through September the answer is Kalahari’s indoor waterpark at 3.8 miles, Rock’N River at 3.1 while its short season lasts, and night games at Dell Diamond at 3.4. The other eight months open up 670 acres at Old Settlers Park, 1.9 miles out with no gate on it, free live music downtown on Wednesdays, and the round rock the town is named for sitting in Brushy Creek at 6.9. Round Rock Premium Outlets is on Interstate 35 at 5.6 miles. What the town does not have is a nightlife district; that is Austin, 28.2 miles south. Every distance here was routed on the road network from 20 Tate Lane and every time is off-peak.
What is Round Rock best known for?
Dell, doughnuts and the rock. Dell Technologies has its global headquarters here, 7.1 miles from this address, and the company is the reason the ballpark is called Dell Diamond. Round Rock Donuts has been selling its oversized yellow doughnuts since 1926, which is the date the city’s own tourism office gives. And the town is named after an actual rock: the City of Round Rock says it was first established where the Chisholm Trail crossed Brushy Creek, and that the low water crossing was marked with a round, table-shaped rock that gave the town its name. The Texas State Historical Association puts the name change at 24 August 1854; before that the settlement was called Brushy Creek. Two more recent additions: Kalahari’s indoor waterpark, and the amateur sports economy that earned Round Rock its long-running Sports Capital of Texas motto, which the city has been phasing out in favour of Go Round Rock since 2019.
What is there to do at Kalahari Round Rock?
The indoor waterpark first: 223,000 square feet holding thirty waterslides, twenty pools and whirlpools, a wave pool, an adult swim-up bar, private cabanas, a waterfall and a kiddie pool area, per Round Rock’s own tourism office, which also repeats Kalahari’s claim that it is America’s largest indoor water park. Beside it is Tom Foolerys Adventure Park, with more than 250 arcade games, amusement rides, a multi-level ropes course, climbing walls, an indoor zipline, laser tag, mini-golf and bowling, plus a sensory calming room next to the waterpark front desk. There is also an outdoor pool area, a spa and a row of restaurants. You do not need a room to use the waterpark: Kalahari sells day passes, and its own page says they are limited and that buying online is the only way to guarantee admission. It does not publish a fixed price and passes do sell out, so check before you drive the 3.8 miles.
Is Round Rock worth visiting?
For a specific trip, yes, and the month matters more than most people expect. Come in October or April and the outdoor half of the town is open: 670 acres at Old Settlers Park, free music on the plaza downtown on a Wednesday, a Round Rock Express game for four dollars. Come in August and you are choosing between water and air conditioning, which is a narrower trip and worth knowing before you book. As a general holiday destination it is a base rather than a draw. If you are coming to Central Texas for music, food and a river you will spend your days in Austin, 28.2 miles south, and sleep here because it is quieter and cheaper. We recommend that version: one genuinely local thing, the round rock in Brushy Creek or a doughnut at Round Rock Donuts on the way in, and Austin for the rest.
What is close to Round Rock, Texas?
Austin, first. Downtown Austin is 28.2 miles and about 39 minutes off-peak from 20 Tate Lane, and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is 34.3 miles and 47 minutes. After that it is a ring of Williamson County towns, all routed from this same address: Hutto at 6.3 miles, Georgetown at 7.7, Pflugerville at 9.2 and Cedar Park at 14.0. The employers in that ring matter more than the towns do for most people who ask: Dell’s global headquarters is 7.1 miles, Samsung’s Taylor plant 14.9, and Tesla’s Giga Texas 28.8. Every figure is a free-flow drive time on the road network, which means Interstate 35 and the Austin run are both materially slower at rush hour than the numbers suggest.
